| (in English) | Instructing novices in motor skill learning in sports and music performance is generally difficult as verbalizing motor skill is inherently difficult. Unveiling the learning process in terms of brain activities associated with such information processing as memory and planning would lead to efficient instructional methods. In this study, we investigated changes in novices' brain activities associated with proficiency in basic drumming using near-infrared spectroscopy. Five novices participated in two drumming tasks over three days. The two tasks were designed so that one was easy for expert drummers but not for novices (difficult task), and the other was easy for both the experts and the novices (easy task). Because the interaction effect in two-way analysis of variance (day and participant factors) was significant, we conducted individual analysis. Results of three participants among the five indicates there are cortical areas which decrease its activity in combination with the success rate in the difficut task increased. | |
