Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We present a framework for the generation and transformations of visuospatial mental imagery based on mental rotation and perspective-taking processes. First, we show that a parietal-frontal network is selectively recruited in imagined object rotation, whereas a medial network including precuneus and hippocampus is selectively recruited in imagined viewer rotation. Next we show that the moment of inertia of an object can affect the strategy of its mental rotation. We then present a generalized radial basis function (GRBF) network that can accomplish view generalization as a form of view prediction. Finally we present a computational model of spatial imagery based on the grid cell concept, and discuss the biological plausibility of an inverse perspective mapping incorporated into the model.
