Low Latency Route Construction considering Radio Duty Cycling in 6LoWPAN/RPL-compliant Wireless Sensor Networks

(in English) In recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been emerging in the field of automation, security and disaster prevention.
When a WSN is used for monitoring, low latency data collection is essential.
On the other hand, power saving is one of vital issues of WSN.
To achieve the power saving, WSN generally turns off the radio channel periodically.
In this periodic activation and sleeping, called Radio Duty Cycling (RDC), a sending node has to wait for the sampling of the receiving node.
This causes the transmission delay.
This paper proposes a low latency route construction method considering the delay caused by the RDC in RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low power and Lossy network).
RPL is a routing protocol to build a WSN that supports IPv6.
The proposed method calculates the expected value of the transmission delay based on wake up time and expected link quality.
Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
