Waveguide orthomode junction (OMJ) is one of key components of antenna feed systems for satellite communication. It works in two frequency bands to separate or combine vertical- or horizontal- linear polarizations or left- or right- circular polarizations. It can be used for relatively high power applications compared to other type of orthmode transducers. However, selection of dimensions in the coupling section for high power capability often limits the operating bandwidth. To address this problem, we propose a compact wideband orthomode junction comprised of matching structures around the coupling section with low pass filters. It has coupling sections straddle a circular waveguide step and a matching element connected to the receive port. Proposed structure consists of milled layers to divide E-Plane of corrugated low pass filters is compact and can be easily manufactured. The measurements were performed including power handling test of 2kW. The measured results demonstrated a return loss of 21dB, isolation of 30dB, loss of 0.2dB in Ku/Ka-band. In this report, we show the design method and the measurement results. |
