Field Experiment of Multi-BS Cooperative MIMO over Inter-BS Interface

(in English) Coordinated Multi-Point Joint Transmission (CoMP-JT) techniques, in which multiple base stations (BSs) transmit their signals in a coordinated manner, have been attracting much attention in LTE-Advanced as techniques improving cell-edge throughput by controlling co-channel interference. In the conventional studies, CoMP has been studied by assuming centralized control utilizing optical fiber systems such as RoF (Radio over Fiber) or RRH (Remote Radio Head). Although resource allocation including the usage of CoMP-JT can be easily realized with the centralized control, there is a limitation on the number of base stations, which can be connected to the centralized control station. Therefore, CoMP-JT cannot be applied between the base stations belonging to different centralized control stations and the throughput performance of the users residing at the cell edge cannot be improved. To resolve the issue, we proposed a distributed control method utilizing inter-BS interface, which enables CoMP-JT among arbitrary base stations; we also developed a prototype system to verify the feasibility and performance of the proposal with real equipment. In this paper, we conducted laboratory and field experiments and clarified the feasibility and performance in a realistic environment.
