Performance Comparisons of Distributed and Localized Transmissions with Frequency Domain Scheduling Using Iterative Decision-Directed Channel Estimation for DFT-Precoded OFDMA

(in English) This paper compares average block error rate (BLER) performance of resource block (RB) based distributed transmission with localized transmission using frequency domain scheduling for discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-precoded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). We apply iterative decision-directed channel estimation (IDDCE) to decrease channel estimation error which is a major impairment to distributed transmission. Computer simulation results show that in low-mobility environment with maximum Doppler frequency of approximately fD = 5.55 Hz, localized transmission decreases the required average received SNR (signal-to-noise power ratio) satisfying the target average BLER by approximately 5 dB compared to RB based distributed transmission due to large frequency scheduling gain. On the contrary, we show in middle-to-high mobility environment with fD of higher than approximately 50 Hz, RB based distributed transmission using IDDCE decreases the required average received SNR by greater than 1 dB compared to localized transmission with frequency domain scheduling.
