With the rapid spread of the wireless LAN (WLAN) terminals complying with IEEE802.11 standard, such as wireless mobile routers and smartphones, a congested situation that many WLAN terminals are gathered arises. Hereafter, we refer to a congested situation with many WLAN STAs as a wireless dense environment (WDE). In WDE, all STAs suffer critical degradation in communication quality. This is because the number of collisions of frames increases in proportion to the number of STAs due to CSMA/CA operation. Moreover, CSMA/CA is designed such that the transmission from any one station does not have priority over any other. If the stations that have high-speed transmission such as IEEE802.11n and the stations that have low-speed transmission such as IEEE802.11b are mixed, this design makes it difficult to optimize transmission period. In this paper, we propose a clustering method for WLAN terminals according to difference of standard, transmission speed, and the number of terminals. The proposed method suppresses collisions between terminals, improves the throughput characteristics in the situation described above and in WDE. |
