Optical SSB modulation by the electro-optic modulator requires two modulation signals with π/2 phase difference, which are generally prepared by using individual microwave components. Such SSB modulators including the microwave components have large dimensions and require fine adjustment of phase and amplitude of the two modulation signals. In this report, coplanar waveguide type branch-line coupler was prepared on LiNbO3(LN) substrate and integrated with modulation electrodes to prepare the two modulation signals from a single input signal. Thereby, the optical SSB modulator with miniaturized configuration and stabilized modulator operation would be realized with the single-tip configuration. By the modulation experiment at around 10 GHz modulation frequencies with 1550 nm wavelength, we confirmed the optical SSB modulation with the sideband suppression ratio of about 20dB. |
