Development of two-directional control BCI using repeated motor imagery

(in English) We developed BCI system which use β-band power decreasing event related desynchronization, ERD with the motor imagery of repeated hand (right or left) open-close movement. The BCI system translates two input signals (EEG from C3 and C4 site) into two control signals. We examined BCI efficiency from testing two-directional control experiment using the system. 8 healthy right writing men participated to this experiment and control the cursor displayed on the LCD with imagined lateral hand movement. Even though all of subject showed control accuracies beyond the chance rate, none of subject shows high accuracy (max 57%) and there is no significant increase in control accuracies by training. However, control among right, left and non-target was demonstrated and proved possibility of two-directional BCI. From the EEG modulation results also suggests that subjects can be adapted to this kind of BCI with training.
