| (in English) | Stereophonic sound systems, such as a 5.1-ch surround system, control sound images in the horizontal plane; however, their vertical localization remains unsatisfactory. We proposed and evaluated the method of controlling sound images with four parametric speakers that have a super-directivity to achieve the horizontal and vertical sound localization on the screen. Our proposed system uses sounds that are reflected on a wall and controls sound images based on sound level differences among parametric speakers. We evaluated the sound localization performances by subjective tests and roughly achieved horizontal sound localization; however, vertical sound localization was difficult. In this report, we examine the vertical angle of the parametric speakers to improve the vertical sound localization. Two experimental conditions to change the irradiation direction of the sound are evaluated. One condition is only changing the installation angle of parametric speakers, and the other is changing the installation angle and the height of parametric speakers. The sound localization performances are evaluated subjectively. From the results, good sound localization was obtained by changing installation angle of parametric speakers. It suggests that a large distance between the irradiation positions is effective to the vertical sound localization. | |
