A Soft-Decision Fuzzy Extractor for increasing Reliability of Physical Unclonable Function Responses

(in English) Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) which create unclonable unique responses from the process variation under the device fabrication have been proposed to realize the anti-cloning LSI used in secure systems. Fuzzy Extractors (FEs) correct unstable bits in unique response bits of PUF using forward error correction and generate cryptographic key. There are high-stability bits (stable bits) and low-stability bits (unstable bits) in PUF responses. This paper focuses on the characteristics in response bits of PUF and proposes a soft-decision forward error correction method utilizing reliability of PUF responses to improve its performance. In order to confirm effectiveness of the proposed method, this paper performs computer simulation for performance comparison using experimental response data from RG-DTM PUF designed and fabricated with 0.18$\mu$m CMOS technology. Finally computer simulation confirms that the proposed method has better block error rate performance than the conventional method.
