A Study on 0-dB Coupler Using Half-mode Groove Waveguide for Wireless Power Transmission

(in English) This paper proposes a design of 0-dB forward coupler consisting of the half-mode groove waveguides and fabrication of 0-dB coupler for wireless power transmission. The design frequencies are assumed 5.8GHz and 24GHz. The transverse resonance technique and the mode matching method are applied to derive the even- and odd-modes phase constants. First, we calculate the phase constants for even- and odd-modes as a function of spacing between two guides. Then, coupled power as a function of distance is derived to achieve 100% coupling. Since it is considered that radiation from open section of coupler occurs, we also discuss about 0dB coupler inserting dielectric strip in spacing. The validity of design results is confirmed by using em-simulator (HFSS) and fabrication.
