Shortened Dipole Antenna Factors by the Reference Antenna Method at a Finite Separation

(in English) An off-resonant antenna, such as a shortened dipole antenna is widely used in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurements due to the compactness. The antenna factor of such an antenna is usually calibrated by comparing that of the standard antenna. Although the off-resonant antenna element is very short compared with the ordinary standard antenna especially at a low frequency, effects of the coupling with the transmitting antenna and the field non-uniformity along the antenna element cannot be neglected on the calibrated antenna factor. The neglect of them results in a considerable error when the reference antenna method (RAM) is implemented with an insufficient separation. In the present paper, potential errors in the shortened dipole antenna calibration by the RAM at a finite separation are discussed for successful measurements.
