We theoretically studied the nonequilibrium carrier relaxation dynamics and the terahertz population inversion in intrinsic graphene excited by optical pulse. Using the model which takes into account the quasi-equilibration by carrier-carrier scattering, energy relaxation and recombination by optical-phonon emission, and the Pauli blocking of optical pulse absorption, we analyzed the dependence of the achievement of the population inversion on the photon energy of the pulse. It was shown that the threshold pulse fluence required for the population inversion is reduced as the photon energy of the pulse becomes lower, due to the dependence of the photoabsorption by graphene on the photon energy and to the reduction of the carrier heating effect by the photoexcited carriers. |
