This paper presents the average block error rate (BLER) performance using iterative decision-directed channel estimation (IDDCE) when using a codebook based transmit diversity and low-rate turbo code for discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-precoded orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). When using codebook transmit diversity and low-rate turbo code, required average received SNR satisfying the target average BLER becomes below 0 dB. In the case, increasing channel estimation error using reference signal (RS) hinders the decrease in the required average received SNR. Hence, we apply IDDCE to derive actual gains of transmit diversity and low-rate turbo code. Computer simulation results show that when the turbo code with R = 1/15 (1/9) and the constraint length of K = 4 bits is used, the required average received SNR at the average BLER of 10-2 using the IDDCE with the number of iterations of 5 is decreased by approximately 1.2 dB compared to that for the RS based channel estimation. We also show that the required average received SNR using IDDCE is decreased by approximately 4.4 and 5.8 dB for R = 1/9 and 1/15, respectively, compared to that for R = 1/3. |
