In recent years, a wireless access scheme attracts attention to realize machine to machine (M2M) networks such as smart meter networks and sensor networks. One of the promising wireless access standards is the IEEE 802.11ah standard, which is based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. Most of the stations in M2M networks will be battery-operated sensors and meters. Therefore, power saving is a key issue of M2M networks. This paper proposes a new power saving method for M2M networks by sleep control method employing virtual grouping which is brought about by random arbitration inter-frame space number scheme. This scheme improves the performance of CSMA/CA systems with many stations. Finally, computer simulation results show that the proposed method reduces power consumption of STAs by 95% under the condition of 10% delay time increase. |
