Higher-Order Moment Orders and Performance in Texture Classification using Support Vector Machines
Trung Nguyen Bao Phan, Keisuke Kameyama (Univ. of Tsukuba) PRMU2012-75 HIP2012-64
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Conventionally, local moment functions (local autocorrelation functions) of orders up to 3 have been widely used as features for image texture classification. This is mainly due to the high dimensionality of higher order moment function feature space. By using the Higher-Order Moment (HOM) kernel function, moment features of higher order can become a practical alternative. In this report we used a Support Vector Machine with the HOM kernel function for texture classification, especially focusing on the use of orders higher than 5. From the experimental results, it was found that the classification accuracy is higher when the order is even. Also, we found that as the order becomes higher, the classifier becomes sensitive to the change of testing data.
