Some evaluation methods for the degree of arteriosclerosis based on magnitude of carotid movement accompanied with cardiac cycle have been already proposed. The magnitude of carotid movement depends on the stiffness of tissue surrounding carotid artery as well as the stiffness of carotid artery itself. Therefore, accurate criterion for the degree of arteriosclerosis will not be obtained by only examining the magnitude of carotid movement. This study proposes an estimation method of the ``self-''stiffness of carotid artery by excluding influence of surrounding tissue. In the proposed method, the movement of surrounding tissue accompanied with cardiac cycle as well as carotid movement itself is tracked by optical flow in the ultrasonic B-mode dynamic images. |
