The property of integration process of vestibular, somatosensory and visual information for the self-motion perception of pitch rotation and translation

(in English) We perceive self-motion by integrating visual, vestibular and somatosensory information. In this research, we showed the optic flow during the rotational motion about the horizontal axis (pitch motion) to simulate the translational motion of acceleration or the rotational motion. We manipulated amplitude and angular velocity of the motion to investigate the effect on the subjects’ self-motion perception. Results show that even if observing the combination of stimuli that seems to be possible as real translational motion, the subjects did not perceive the motion.
