We address the question of quantifying entanglement in pure graph states. We show that three measures of multipartite entanglement, the Schmidt measure, the relative entropy of entanglement and the geometric measure, can be evaluated exactly for a large subclass of pure graph states by solving a single problem in graph theory, namely the maximum independent vertex set problem. We characterise the set of graph states for which this is possible in terms of their graph theoretic properties. We also extend our methods to weighted graph states which are relevant in many condensed matter systems. |
