On the Use of Objective Measures to Estimate Watermarked Audio Quality
Kazuhiro Kondo (Yamagata Univ.) EA2012-93 EMM2012-75
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper compares three objective audio quality assessment measures calculated for three watermark methods with its corresponding subjective quality. The aim was to see if these measures could be used to estimate the subjective quality of audio with various watermarks. The subjective quality was measured with MUSHRA. Samples were watermarked with the LSB substitution, direct spread-spectrum, and the echo hiding method. The objective scores were calculated using three objective measures: PEAQ, and the PEMO-Q. The PEAQ showed relatively low correlation with subjective quality, below 0.8, while the PEMO-Q showed higher correlation, at about 0.9. Thus, PEMO-Q seems to be the choice to assess the audio quality of watermarked audio, which can be used to screen conditions that satisfy the target subjective
quality.
