This paper presents a distributed autonomous multi-hop vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication system over TV white space implemented in Miyazaki in January and February 2012. To evaluate the system we carried out field experiments with three vehicles. In Part 1 of our report we explained how the vehicles autonomously establish control channel using white space, and then begin two-hop communication. In Part 2 we focus on the design of spectrum sensing system and adjacent hop interference reduction. Each vehicle individually uses sensing to obtain information on white space availability, and shares this information with all other vehicles over the control channel. If a primary user is detected in any of the borrowed channels, the vehicles switch to a vacant channel without disrupting the ongoing multi-hop communication. In the experiments, we adjust appropriate parameters of quiet period for sensing to balance two requirements: to avoid false alarms due to insufficiently accurate time synchronization between the vehicles, and to achieve higher channel utilization. To reduce interference between different hops we adjust antenna polarization. Finally, we measure throughput using obtained sensing parameters and antenna polarization. |
