Performance Evaluation of Interference Rejection Combining Receiver in LTE-Advanced Uplink CoMP

(in English) Introduction of coordinated multipoint (CoMP) operation is considered to enhance the spectrum efficiency in LTE-Advanced (Release 11) uplink. The multiple user equipments (UEs) within the coordinated cells should be multiplexed on the same frequency to increase spectrum efficiency. The interference rejection combining (IRC) receiver is effective in separating the signals of multiplexed UEs on the same frequency. The IRC receiver requires highly accurate channel estimation of the desired and interfered signals. Hence, the cell to apply the CoMP operation needs to calculate the channel estimation of each UE with high accuracy using the de-modulation reference signal (DMRS) of multiplexing UEs. However, assuming realistic cell specific scheduler, the performance improvement by applying CoMP decreases because the channel estimation accuracy is deteriorated greatly due to collapse the orthogonality relation of DMRS sequences among multiplexing UEs. In this paper, we propose the IRC receiver that changes the covariance matrix estimation method based on whether DMRS sequences can be separated or not. This paper verifies the uplink CoMP performance using the proposed IRC receiver by using system level simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed IRC receiver improves the system performance and cell-edge throughput more than 10% over the conventional IRC receiver.
