| (in English) | We examined what kind of facial expressions of Ophelia, which was painted by John Everett Millais in 1853, we perceive using adaptation task. The participants were asked to identify the emotion category of the test stimulus (schematic faces of six facial expressions morphed from 10% to 60%) that was presented for 50ms subsequent to the adaptation stimuli (Ophelia face, random dot) that were presented for 5000ms. In this task, perception of facial expression of test stimuli similar to adaptation stimuli’s one inhabit. We think that the identification accuracy of facial expressions of test stimulus decreases when subjects perceive a similar category of facial expressions of Ophelia. Our result indicated that adaptation to Ophelia face caused the subsequently presented corresponding expression to be recognized less readily for 40% and 50% morphed sadness schematic images. Therefore, it suggested that the facial expressions of Ophelia might be perceived the sadness. | |
