Time slot adding assignment in IEEE 802.16j wireless relay networks

(in English) Relay networks based on IEEE 802.16j adopt the TDMA, where time slots are assigned to communication links in the network as transmission opportunities. Furthermore, when we employ the adaptive modulation and coding for data transmission on wireless links, the bitrate in the transmission is affected by Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR). Therefore, the algorithms which assign time slots to links in the network are important to enhance the performance of relay networks. When we employ the relay network as an access method to the backhaul network, the bottleneck link is likely to be located at links near the gateway node, that dominates the performance of the relay network.
In this report, we propose the time slot adding algorithm to improve bottleneck link throughput in IEEE 802.16j relay networks. Although we employ an existing method for the initial assignment of time slots to links in the network, we introduce novel algorithms to add more time slots to the bottleneck link in the network. Through performance evaluations, we confirm that the data transfer throughput is enhanced by up to around 78\% by using the proposed method.
