General shape recognition using contour representation with coarse to fine structure

(in English) Based on the concept that
the human visual system hierarchically represents shapes
with their curvature,
various types of shape descriptors are proposed.
With these conventional descriptors, however,
it is quite challenging to represent
incomplete shapes, which are partially occluded,
described only with coarse structure,
or geometrically transformed.
The authors (Matsuda et al.), therefore,
have already proposed a curvature-based shape representation
with a coarse to fine structure,
which make it possible to describe incomplete shapes.
Based on this representation,
this paper proposes the approach
to match and recognize shapes as quick as possible in limited computation time,
which the human visual system plausibly apply.
