Sound Quality Improvement of Loudspeaker Systems Using Digital Electronic Crossover

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It is known that a distance between diaphragm surfaces of speaker units would affect sound quality in multi-way loudspeaker systems. The effect is considerable when a horn type unit is used in a loudspeaker system because of its longer diaphragm distance. But, in ordinary loudspeaker systems, units are fixed on a baffle board, therefore it is difficult to change the position of the speaker units. In this paper, we propose a sound quality improvement method that adjusts the diaphragm distance by adding delay to input signal. The delay is determined from the response time difference between the good-quality and the substandard speaker systems. The experiment showed that timbre of the substandard loudspeaker system subjectively improved to the equivalent quality of the good quality unit.
