This report discusses the helicopter obstacle detection test results of the 76 GHz small transmitting power millimeter-wave radar system. The purpose of the on-board radar is to detect and avoid obstacles such as high-voltage power lines and towers that may affect flight safety. To achieve these objectives, the radar system is required to have high sensitivity, while maintaining small volume and weight as well as low cost. Firstly, the specification of the small transmitting power millimeter wave radar, which requires no license, is briefly explained. To achieve a low-cost and a simple fabrication, the developed millimeter-wave radar system is based on a direct conversion FMCW radar method. The maximum detection range and the data rate are 1040 m and 1 Hz, respectively. Then, the settings of the radar and other sensor devices such as a color camera and infrared camera are discussed. Finally, it is confirmed that the radar can detect the high voltage power lines and towers, which is about 1000 m away from the helicopter. |
