In order to realize energy-efficient optical networks for future large bandwidth video transmission, we have proposed and demonstrated parametric tunable dispersion compensator (P-TDC) which consists of a parametric frequency conversion based on four-wave mixing (FWM) process and a dispersive medium having frequency-dependent group velocity dispersion. In this paper, we develop input-frequency-preserving P-TDC with polarization diversity for simultaneous dispersion compensation of wavelength-division multiplexed channels. The in-line polarization-insensitive P-TDC is composed of cascaded parametric tunable frequency converters based on degenerate FWM process in polarization-maintaining highly-nonlinear fibers with a low dispersion slope. Dispersion-managed error-free transmission of four channels of 43-Gbit/s NRZ-OOK signal is successfully demonstrated over 126-km dispersion-shifted fiber with the in-line polarization-insensitive P-TDC. |
