Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Field trial of 10G-EPON system for next generation optical access systems started followed by increasing of internet traffic. In 10G-EPON system, higher split ratio of optical network unit (ONU) are expected compared to current GE-PON system. In this paper, we propose a new high split-ratio 10G-EPON system supporting 256 ONU splits without optical amplifiers. Thanks to a new optical line terminal (OLT) burst-mode XFP transceiver featuring a fast/slow self-switching burst-mode automatic gain control (AGC) function and 82.5 GS/s sampling CDR ICs, and ONU symmetric and asymmetric SFP+ transceivers, this 10G-EPON system with higher split-ratio achieved a loss budget of 35.9 dB and a fast dual-rate burst-mode synctime of 240 ns with a upstream throughput of up to 8.0 Gb/s supporting 256 ONU splits.
