A 0.5-V 2.4-GHz CMOS voltage-controlled oscillator is designed for wireless sensor network applications. It is based on the current-reuse N-/P-FET switching core with LC tank. The N-FET switching transistor also serves as a current source to determine the operating current of the oscillator. This structure allows as low-voltage operation as 0.5 V through only two-transistor stacking structure and as low-current operation as 131 uA through the embedded current source structure. The proposed circuit is designed in 0.13um CMOS process. It consumes 65.5 uW from 0.5 V supply. The simulated phase noise at the output frequency of 2.4 GHz is -114 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. |
