Study of effectiveness of view prediction based on head motion

(in English) In marketing there is a demand to measure the view of customers. However, it is difficult for subjects to behave as usual if they wear conventional eye-tracking devices, as they look quite unusual and would attract the attention of the surrounding people. It is said that there is a correlation between head motion and eye motion, and this property can be used to estimate the gaze direction using head motion, without explicit eye tracking. To examine the feasibility of gaze estimation based on this strategy, we conducted an experiment to verify the relationship between head motion and gaze direction. As a result, gaze estimation based on head tracking was effective with accuracy of several degrees, except for a few subjects who do not move their head when changing the gaze direction.
