A Scalable Complex Event Processing System and its Performance Evaluations

(in English) This paper describes a scalable context delivery platform (SCTXPF) and our its evaluations of it. A rule allocation algorithm for SCTXPF is described in specific detail. The SCTXPF receives a large number of events from event sources such as sensor networks, automobiles, and mobile phones and a large number of complex event processing (CEP) rules such as requests from various services/applications. It then derives the context of users/things from the events based on the CEP rules and notifies the services/applications of them. By applying SCTXPF, service providers can achieve large-scale context-aware services such as automobile information services. The SCTXPF should allocate CEP rules efficiently to be able to operate with a high level of performance and be scalable. The rule allocation algorithm allocates the CEP rules to event processors (EPs) so that the state of event processing is efficiently managed. The SCTXPF achieves high throughput and scalable CEP with the EPs operating independently of one another. We evaluated the effect of the rule allocation algorithm in terms of scalability and system throughput. The results revealed that the proposed system is scalable and the proposed algorithm improves its scalability.
