Equivalent edge currents (EECs) are concept for surface-to-line integral reduction and are widely used to asymptotically extract the diffraction from the surface radiation integrals in the form of line integration along the periphery of the scatterers. This paper discusses the potentials of EECs based on the unique concept named as Modified Edge Representation (MER) for surface-to-line integral reduction of Physical Optics (PO) radiation integral. In contrast to conventional EECs, MER-EECs provide uniform fields across the Geometrical Optics (GO) boundaries, and are clearly defined not only at the edges but also everywhere on the scatterer. In principle, the radiation integral consisting of the diffraction and the GO components, could be reduced into two sets of line integration of MER-EECs along the periphery of the indentation at SPPs on the scatterer. This paper compares the SGO components and the indentation integral at SPPs and derived the closed form expression for their difference for general shape of the scatterers. Based upon this result, the overall accuracy of MER-EECs in surface-to-line integral reduction of PO is investigated and is enhanced for variety of curved surfaces. |
