Super high bit-rate transmission with more than 10 Gbps has been studied to achieve higher bit-rate in mobile communications. In order to verify its feasibility by experiment, 5 Gbps 4x4 MIMO-OFDM experimental system has been developed and its performances have been evaluated. The experimental system combines baseband (BB) circuits that support 400 MHz bandwidth by using programmable devices and 11 GHz band radio frequency (RF) circuits. An 8x8 MIMO-OFDM RF/BB experimental system employing software defined radio architecture is developed by enhancing the BB circuits and expanding the RF circuits in the conventional 4x4 MIMO-OFDM experimental system, and this report introduces both hardware and software of the experimental system. The software can be divided into the software on FPGA which is written by HDL and that on CPU which is written by the C++ language. In addition, the latter software consists of MIMO-OFDM transmission and reception processing, BB calibration that achieves higher accuracy of the 800 MHz sampling BB circuits, and RF calibration that compensates for imperfection of the 11 GHz band RF circuits, and this report also explains them in detail. Moreover, throughput performance of the 10 Gbps transmission that the experimental system measures by adding fading and noise generation to the reception processing on CPU is shown. |
