In the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, the terrestrial communications network suffered serious damage, and the effectiveness of satellite communications attracted attention. NICT supported a disaster management agencies which worked on disaster response activities using Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite "KIZUNA" (WINDS).
NICT starts the research and development of the network which is strong against a disaster either and a fully automatic transportable earth station, a large-scale in-vehicle earth station and a small size vehicle earth station for WINDS are under development. In this paper, these earth stations are described. |
