10 Gbps 8x8 MIMO-OFDM RF/BB Experimental System for Super High Bit-Rate Mobile Communications

(in English) Super high bit-rate transmission with more than 10 Gbps has been studied to achieve higher bit-rate in mobile communications. In order to verify its feasibility by experiment, 5 Gbps 4x4 MIMO-OFDM experimental system has been developed and its performances have been evaluated. The experimental system combines baseband (BB) circuits that support 400 MHz bandwidth and 11 GHz band radio frequency (RF) circuits. 10 Gbps 8x8 MIMO-OFDM RF/BB experimental system is developed by enhancing the BB circuits and expanding the RF circuits in the conventional 4x4 MIMO-OFDM experimental system, and this report presents the 8x8 MIMO-OFDM RF/BB experimental system and its hardware configuration. BB circuits employ newly developed 800 MHz-sampling ADC circuits, and exploit an interpolation filter to compensate for difference of clock phase. It is shown that the experimental system achieves error vector magnitude of 2.5 % by coping with IQ imbalance of the RF circuits by signal processing. Moreover, in 10 Gbps 8x8 MIMO-OFDM with coding rate of 3/4 and 64QAM, laboratory experiments are conducted by the experimental system. The experimental results demonstrate that SNR degradation of the measured results to achieve average block error rate of 0.01 is 0.4 dB from the simulation results, and that the experimental system can achieve 10 Gbps throughput at SNR = 15.9 dB by employing turbo detection.
