Recently, the power consumption on network equipment is increasing, because of the increasing number of network users and volume of network contents, and power saving for network equipment is required.
For FTTH (Fiber To The Home), various studies for power saving on PON (Passive Optical Network) section have been conducted, but these studies do not consider power saving on the section between PON and a layer 2 switch which aggregates traffic from ONUs and OLTs.
In this paper, we propose a new power saving method which reduces a huge amount of packet buffers needed in the layer 2 switch by performing bandwidth control in layer 2 switch with DBA (Dynamic bandwidth Allocation) on PON. |
