[Requested Talk]Energy Harvesting Technology for Urine-activated Sensor System
Takakuni Douseki (Ritsumeikan Univ.) RCS2012-10
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the era of sensor network, there will be a stronger demand for short-range wireless systems to connect things to the network. For such equipment, maintenance-free systems without a replacement of battery are desired. A wireless self-powered system that runs on small green energy sources, such as the light, kinetic, and thermal energy sources around us. Three key techniques, that is power generation device, power management, and low-power circuit, are required for design of wireless self-powered system. In this paper, we describe that energy harvesting technology and ultralow-power circuit technology for a urinary incontinence sensor with a urine-activated battery that we have recently developed. Finally, we show that an application-oriented system design method that considers all three key design factors, that is energy conversion, energy extraction, and energy dissipation, are required for design of future wireless self-powered systems.
