Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In order to realize artificial vision by means of the cortical implant, it is critical to understand how the cortical responses evoked by electrical stimulation are transmitted to the higher-order visual areas. In the present study, we made analyses on the synaptic responses to electrical stimuli at the mouse primary visual cortex (V1) by the in-vivo imaging technique using a voltage-sensitive-dye, RH-1691. When a single pulse of the current stimulus was delivered through a glass microelectrode penetrating into the layer II/III of V1, a depolarizing response was induced around the stimulation site, and transmitted also to the higher-order visual areas. We found that such a signal transmissions can be modulated depending on the frequency of the repetitive pulse stimulation.
