A Mathematical Model of the Influence of Astrocytes on Oscillations of a Small Neural Network

(in English) It is reported that astrocytes modulate neuronal activities. Astrocytes are excited by pyramidal cells, while activated astrocytes excite pyramidal cells and interneurons. But these functional roles are not still well understood. In order to explain the influence of astrocytes on the activity of neural population, we constructed a computational model, which consists of a small neural network with an astrocyte. As a result of computer stimulations, the astrocyte raises a transition from asynchronous beta rhythm to synchronized alpha rhythm with emergent cell assembly of synchronous firing.
