Transmission Method of Clipping Negative QAM Signals for Orthogonal- Subcarrier- Division- Multiplexing PON

(in English) To economically provide higher bit rate services to users, we previously proposed an Orthogonal Subcarrier Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (OSDM-PON) using a digital modulation technology. We also showed that a 16-QAM based system can support up to 16 Optical Network Units ONUs), and constantly provide service data rate of 1 Gbps to each user; ONU made the QAM signal be completely positive by adding some bias before converting an electrical to optical signal due to no negative level in the optical domain. To decrease power consumption, this paper proposes a transmission method of clipping a negative QAM signal for OSDM-PON, and three methods for regenerating an original QAM signal from the clipped signal in the receiving Optical Line Terminal (OLT). We evaluate the proposed methods by simulations. We also evaluate transmission optical power between proposed and conventional one.
