Improvement of Synthetic Transmit Aperture 3D Acoustic Imaging Using Compensation of Transmitter's Radiation Pattern

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose a new method to improve the conventional 3D acoustic imaging by applying compensation of a transmitter’s radiation pattern to the Synthetic Transmit Aperture (STA) imaging technique. The purpose of the work is to compensate the nonideal radiation pattern of the ultrasonic transmitter, which degrades resultant images, in both phase and amplitude aspects. The radiation characteristic of the transmitter is analyzed by using measurement data, and the compensation of phase and amplitude is performed by calculation. The imaging experiment is conducted in-air by using a 2D receiver array and a 2D transmitter array.
