The commercialization of zinc/air secondary battery is limited because of its low cycling life. Shape change and dendrite growth in zinc anode have been reported to degrade cycling performance. Such phenomena are mainly caused by the high solubility of zincate in alkaline electrolyte. We have tried to coat zinc anode with a cation exchange polymer to suppress the solubility of zincate and estimated its effect on the cell cycling performance.
Galvanostatic polarization, XRD, SEM and EIS showed that the surface modified electrode suppressed the elution of zincate into the alkaline electrolyte. In addition, cell cycling tests showed the surface modified zinc electrode improved cycling performance. |
