To search new white-LED and PDP phosphors, garnet-based compounds ?3?2?3012 (?= Ca,Sr, ?= Al,Ga,In,Sc,Y, ?= Si,Ge,Sn) have been systematically prepared by conventional solid state reaction method at atmospheric pressure. It has been found that the ease in preparing these compounds strongly depends on the ion radius ratio of ?2+ (eight-coordination), ?3+ (six-coordination), and ?4+ (four-coordination) ions. The available combination range has been investigated in Ca- and Sr-based compounds. The doping of Eu and Ce in these hosts has also been attempted. |
