Deveopment and Evaluation of 10G-EPON OLT by using gain control of SOA Hiroki Ikeda, Jun Sugawa (Hitachi) CS2011-95 |

We developed a SOA-embedded OLT prototype for long-reach and high-split ratio 10.3Gb/s PON system. Increase of output power in optical transmitter side and improvement of receiver sensitivity in optical receiver side are issues to be solved, to achieve long-reach and high-split-ratio by upgrading OLT. We proposed SOA gain control for downstream continuous signal and upstream burst-mode signal, and implemented their control circuit to OLT prototype. An evaluation of OLT prototype shows that OLT output power of +9.9dBm, extinct ratio of 8.7dB in optical transmitter side and receiver sensitivity for burst signal of -32.4dBm are achieved. We showed that downstream loss-budget can be extended to 42.4dB and upstream loss-budget can be extended to 37.9dB by applying the SOA-embedded OLT. |
