[Invited Talk] Adaptive Equalization Techniques in Wireless Communications and their Applications -- Collaborative and Combined Wireless Signal Processing --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper discusses applications of adaptive equalization techniques in wireless communications. In this paper, “adaptive equalization” is consists of parameter estimation using adaptive filters and signal detection in the presence of intersymbol interference (ISI). It is important for wireless communications, especially mobile radio communications, (1) to track fast time-varying ISI channels and (2) to combat time dispersive ISI channels. For (1), PSP (per-survivor processing) has been developed by means of joint channel estimation and maximum-likelihood detection. For (2), a block transmission scheme with the cyclic prefix has been developed to allow collaborative signal processing on in the frequency domain and time domain. Recently, adaptive equalization techniques have been applied to optical communications and high speed signal interface and they have also been studied for new wireless communication systems. This paper provides a brief review of applications of adaptive equalization techniques from the point of view of wireless communications and signal processing techniques.
