PON system has been widely deployed as an optical access network device providing fast, high-capacity and low-cost broadband service. Significant part of its power is consumed by ONUs, and therefore reducing their power consumption is required to prevent global warming and power shortage. There are two types of ONUs depending on purpose: single LLID per ONU for FTTH and multiple LLIDs per ONU for FTTB.
ITU-T and IEEE have been facilitating a standardization of ONU's power saving in cooperation with OLT. This paper examines, in different cases, the methods of each LLID and Sleep/Active state transition of when implementing power saving for ONUs supporting multiple LLIDs, and reports advantages and disadvantages of them. |
