MPG Reduction for Effective Diffusion MR Imaging Based on L1-norm Regularization

(in English) The high angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI) captures high angular-resolution 3D images of diffusion MR imaging by changing the direction of the motion probing gradient (MPG), along which the strength of
water diffusion is mesured. The problem here is that the capturing process is time consuming when many MPGs are applied for making the angular resolution higher. In this article, we propose a method for decreasing the number of MPG directions with keeping the angular resolution higher. Limiting the target to pyramidal tracts, we obtain an optimal set of MPG directions that can realize high angular resolution with small number of the directions. For this purpose, we employ a spherical radial basis functions (SRBF) for interpolating the measurements and obtains the set of MPG directions by minimizing the residuals between the training measurements and the interpolated ones with sparseness regularization. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation experiments and by clinical image ones.
