In this paper, we propose prosodic-event-based HMM
for effectively modeling F0 pattern of spontaneous conversational speech
in HMM-based speech synthesis.
The prosodic-event-based HMM uses the segment such as pitch falling
by accent or pitch rising of boundary pitch movement (BPM)
as a modeling unit of HMM.
The proposed HMM is expected to reduce the model parameters of F0
because there are less prosodic events derived from F0 features
than phones that strongly depends on spectral features.
We performed the objective and subjective experiments using spontaneous conversational speech data,
and the results show that the prosodic-event-based HMM can
significantly reduce the number of model parameters
while keeping the quality of the synthetic speech. |
